We truly enjoy getting to know our supporters, and learning what motivates them to pay it forward. In this post, we have the pleasure of introducing you to Emmanuel "Juno" and Jocelyn "Jing" Vega, two of our donors who have a passionate commitment to lifting the most vulnerable students experiencing homelessness, and enabling them to focus on their studies. In fact, they have fostered this compassion with their son Jordan, who is the Resource Director of Bruin Shelter. Here is a glimpse into what education and home means to them.

What compels you to help homeless college students?

My wife and I come from very humble beginnings. We both experienced hardships that constantly remind us to give back and share our blessings.

What attracted you to this organization in particular?

My son Jordan introduced us to the Bruin Shelter. His passion to serve inspired me and my wife to learn more about the service you provide. We like the way our contributions are tangible.

What was your most meaningful memory from college?

I vividly remember getting official word from the university where I graduated that I completed the curriculum and will graduate. I felt a silent sense of gratitude, relief and happiness. I could not afford the graduation fees, rental for the cap the gown, nor transportation. Yet, I graduated!

What motivates you to stay involved?

That in partnership, the Bruin Shelter makes a difference in the lives we provide service.

What might (someone) be surprised to know about you?

That Jordan Vega is our son yet he does not look like me at all.

Why do you think youth homelessness should be a priority for philanthropists?

The youth are the most vulnerable. It is the most pivotal time in their lives when we can make a difference. If not now, when? If not us, then who?

Thank you Emmanuel and Jocelyn for being selfless guardians for homeless college students!
